The fake news about working in Germany with no visa is spreading again

The process of old-news recycling is a well-established practice when it comes to fake media. This time they renewed the fake news we wrote about three months ago.

At the end of the last year, we wrote about false claims regarding the “new law” which was adopted in Germany that would allow arrival with no visa but also make it easier for non-EU citizens to get employment. The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany denied the whole story, but the topic has been brought up again last week by portal Paralelno, presenting it as a “breaking news”. Other portals have shared the news, using similar headlines.

BREAKING NEWS THIS YEAR: From January 1, 2019, citizens coming from the region of former Yugoslavia with no EU passport will be allowed to work in Germany with no visa: Here is how!

BREAKING NEWS OF THE DAY: From January 1, 2019, citizens coming from the region of former Yugoslavia with no EU Passport will be allowed to work in Germany: Here is how!

The headline of one of these articles was a subject of our analysis from December last year, and it looked like this:

BREAKING NEWS OF THE DAY: FROM JANUARY 1, 2018, CITIZENS COMING FROM THE REGION OF FORMER YUGOSLAVIA WITH NO EU PASSPORT WILL BE ALLOWED TO WORK IN GERMANY: SEE HOW!

The same applies to the text of the article, where only the date was changed. For instance, last year, in October, the website Sehara published the following news:

From January 1, 2018, the new law on employment will allow all citizens from former Yugoslavia whose countries are not EU members, to get employment under the same conditions as EU citizens. (…) This information will be confirmed by the official institution by the end of November.

The original “news” was published in October, announcing the confirmation from official institutions in a time span of one month. Although the portal Paraleleno has recycled this news a couple of days ago, it had left this detail untouched, while claiming that it was familiar with the plans of “official institutions” eight months in advance.

This is apparently the redistribution of fake news, which is the rank we give to these articles.

Note: September 6, 2019.

This fake news continued to be redistributed on the websites. For example, websites Novi balkan and Klix online shared the news on September 4, while Red mag did it six days earlier. Globalno published the same thing on August 28. These are all ranked as the redistribution of fake news.

Note: October 15, 2018.

After our readers’ report, we gave Pink radio website the same rank for redistributing fake news.

Note: November 11, 2018.

This fake news continues to spread on websites, and we have a new iteration of this disinformation on Globalno website, which had published the same news earlier, along with seven other websites that redistributed this fake news in the past month. They are all ranked for redistributing fake news.

The analysis: “Fake promises about getting a job in Germany with no visas”, contains a rebuttal from the Federal Employment Agency and the German Embassy.
